Blueberries at the Farmer's Market in Hudson, Upstate NY

For my second (and last) weekend at our home in Hudson, we have absolutely nothing planned, which is fantastic because an open schedule is just what I need to pull myself together and finally try using the loom I got for Atheistmas. Once you get the hang of it, it's actually very easy to use! I won't be able to bring it to SF with me, but I may well ask someone to bring it over sometime soon...

Mom drives us to the Hudson Farmer's Market, where we make provisions for the weekend. She goes to her favorite farmers to pick out some garlic scape, which she swears are the new kale. Whatever that means.

We try some delicious kale walnut pesto from Oliva Provisions, and buy a box to put in our pasta salad for lunch. Also in our (reusable) shopping bags: strawberries, blueberries, mini cucumbers, tomatoes, fingerling potatoes (Mom  hand-picked all of the smallest ones she could find) and a bag of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.

On the menu for dinner: barbecued steak and portobello mushrooms (for the environmentally conscious among us, aka me) served with oven-roasted potatoes and grilled garlic scapes. For dessert, Mom brings out her infamous crumble, this time in a strawberry-blueberry variation. You can find her standard apple crumble recipe here on her blog, and just substitute the apples with any fruit of your choice.
