sargent // portraits of artists and friends

For our last weekend together in NYC, Olympe and I decided to go check out the rooftop installation at the Met. We were very disappointed to find it consisting of a small-ish aquarium containing only a handful of sea creatures. Luckily, the view of the skyline and of Central Park are there to cheer us up.

Because the rooftop exhibit took much less time than we had expected, we head downstairs and venture into 'Sargent: Portraits of Artists and Friends'. Neither of us had ever heard of Sargent, nor had we seen any of his works. We truly enjoy his more realistic portraits, which capture human expressions, especially those of children, very impressively. Olympe and I agree Sargent's more impressionistic paintings are too messy for our taste, but his other works more than make up for that.
